Six Bucknell Football Seniors Named Members of NFF Hampshire Honor Society

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Six Bucknell football seniors were among a list of 671 players honored Wednesday by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) as members of the 2011 NFF Hampshire Society, which is comprised of college football seniors from all divisions of play who maintained a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average or better.
The six Bison honorees were: Rob Gerlach (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown), Alex Iwaskiw (Ellicott city, Md./Mount Hebron), Luke Massaro (Port Matilda, Pa./State College Area), Travis Nissley (Mount Joy, Pa./Manheim Central), Jason Vollmar (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and John von Paris (Upper Falls, Md./John Carroll).
Nissley, who owns a 3.97 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering, has already been honored by the NFF this year as he was named an NFF National Scholar-Athlete and a finalist for the Campbell Trophy in the fall. The 119th Academic All-American at Bucknell, Nissley recorded a team-high 63 tackles as a senior.
A management major, Gerlach started all 11 games in 2010 and posted a career-high 46 tackles to go along with 3.5 tackles for loss and a 58-yard fumble return for a touchdown vs. Colgate.
Iwaskiw will graduate later this month with a degree in biomedical engineering. He served for two years as the Bison's long-snapper before moving to wide receiver this past season. Iwaskiw caught his first career pass on Senior Day at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium against Colgate.
Massaro is an accounting major with a cumulative GPA of better than 3.5. He played on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball throughout his career, finishing as a tight end in 2010. He caught six passes for 45 yards and rushed once for one yard as a senior.
Bucknell's starting center this past year after starting at right guard as a junior, Vollmar is a management major with a 3.79 cumulative GPA. He posted a 4.0 GPA in the fall 2010 semester. Vollmar started the final 22 games of his career on the offensive line.
Von Paris had 19 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception in 2010. He finished his career with 75 career stops and 17 tackles for loss. Von Paris will receive an accounting degree later this month and he owns a GPA of better than 3.5.
Nissley, Vollmar and von Paris were all members of the Academic All-Patriot League in 2010, while all six NFF honorees were Patriot League Academic Honor Roll members.
