Christa Matlack Receives Senior Athletic Award at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Christa Matlack (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport Area), a captain on the soccer team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held in Terrace Room on Tuesday, May 3.
Matlack won the Christy Mathewson Award, presented "to the outstanding senior athletes". Matlack shared the award with Kevin LeValley of the wrestling team, who was the male selection.
In her last season, Matlack was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight campaign and was also named First Team All-Patriot League. A native of South Williamsport, Pa., Matlack led the team in goals (7) and points (17) and was tied for second in assists (3). She also ranked second in goals and third in points in the Patriot League, helping the Bison to a regular-season title.
Matlack finished her career as one of only three Bison to earn three first-team selections from the Patriot League, joining Nicole Marotta (2006-08) and Hall of Famer Lisa Gibbons (1992-94). She ranks fifth at Bucknell in career goals (32) and points (78) and is tied for seventh in career assists (14).
A biology major, Matlack became the first student-athlete in program history to earn Scholar All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) this fall. She was also voted First Team Academic All-District and was named to the inaugural Patriot League All-Academic Team. Included in her studies was research with a Bucknell faculty member on the effects of vitamin injections on post-hatch growth and behavior of newly hatched chickens.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of 3,583 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 16 of 20 years, including 12 of the last 13.
Bucknell annually ranks among the national leaders in graduation rate and is fifth in Division I in the total number of CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, with 119 national Academic All-Americans since 1970.
