I still cannot believe I am already done with my freshman year. The spring season approached so quickly and finished up even faster, probably because it did not feel or look like spring at all! Training in the spring was very different than our in-season training, especially with the addition of long-course morning workouts. This addition increased the effort level and ultimately the Bison work ethic. Other than the optional practices it was amazing to hear how everyone was staying in shape, especially through running and yoga. Hearing about all the ways everyone was working to stay in shape in and out of the pool made me feel confident that everyone is looking to have an even better season next year.
After finishing up our season in Indianapolis following Patriots, I had a few goals in mind going into the summer. Ideally, making it out to California with my teammates for Nationals is the ultimate goal of my swim career, but as for the short term, I was looking forward to competing in the next Grand Prix in Charlotte, N.C. After not performing my best in Indy, I did want to improve upon my times while there, but I also was looking forward to swimming with some fast and famous competition, as well as watching and spending the weekend with my four other teammates Billy Krause, Eric Sokolosky, Tom Brown and Christian Treat.
Arriving at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center was an experience unlike any other meet I have ever been to. It felt more like a convention than a swim meet. There was an "Athlete Zone" as well as demonstrations and an "Autograph Zone". This alone made the atmosphere so lively and swimming with Olympic competition is always thrilling. It made it very easy to get excited for our races. We all had our good and bad swims, but it was a great experience and I was happy with performances compared to the last Grand Prix in Indianapolis. It was a great starting point for the summer season and helped me prepare and get excited for my summer training at home. The meet was definitely a satisfactory way to finish off spring training and my freshman year overall!
