Five Members of Bucknell Swimming and Diving Teams Compete at Charlotte UltraSwim

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Five Bucknell swimmers competed at the Charlotte UltraSwim this past weekend at the Mecklenberg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C. The four-day meet featured many of the best swimmers in the country, including Olympic Champion Michael Phelps.
Bison men's swimmers Thomas Brown (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), Billy Krause (Huntington Bay, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) and Christian Treat (Evergreen, Colo./Clear Creek) were in action representing Bucknell. Additionally, Kelly Pontecorvo (New Providence, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) competed on the women's side.
Those five swimmers competed in 14 total events and finished in the top half of the field in four as Sokolosky (100 fly, 100 free), Brown (100 back) and Treat (200 IM) finished better than 50 percent of their competitors in a handful of events.
All five Bison that swam in Charlotte were All-Patriot League selections this past winter. Sokolosky earned his third career All-Patriot League certificate, while Brown, Krause and Treat, the PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year, were second-team choices for the second time in their careers. Pontecorvo, a freshman in 2010-11, was named to the Second Team on the women's side.
The meet was contested in long course meters, versus the shorter yards the Bison student-athletes are accustomed to from their regular seasons.
SwimMac Carolina has hosted the Charlotte UltraSwim since 1985. This year's event was the 27th annual competition.
