Bucknell Women's Rowing Races at Big Ten Duals, Knecht Cup

COLUMBUS, Ohio/CHERRY HILL, N.J. - For the second straight weekend Bucknell women's rowing had dual-site competitions as the openweights traveled to the Griggs Reservoir in Ohio to participate in the Big Ten Duals, while the lightweights raced at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in New Jersey. It was the Bison's first trip to the Griggs Reservoir since racing there in 2008 and 2009, while the lightweights were Bucknell's first Knecht Cup representative since the Bison varsity eight won the title in 2008.
Bucknell was joined by Big Ten opponents No. 9 Ohio State, Iowa and Indiana on the Griggs Reservoir. Non-Big Ten schools Louisville and Rhode Island were also in action. The Buckeyes are in the top 10 nationally, while Louisville and Iowa are receiving votes in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. Bucknell ended the day with a pair of victories over Louisville boats in the second varsity eight and the second varsity four.
The Big Ten Duals had a morning session and an afternoon session and featured three-boat heats in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four. Two-boat heats took place in the second varsity four.
The Bison second varsity eight posted a second-place finish in a tight afternoon session. Indiana finished first in 7:05.2, while Bucknell was second (7:06.8) and Louisville was third in 7:08.2.
Bucknell's varsity eight and varsity four took third in each of their races, while the second varsity four's 13.4-second win over Louisville was the only first-place finish for the openweight Bison on the day.
The lightweight eight also posted a victory, winning its heat on the first day of the Knecht Cup. By winning its four-boat heat, the lightweight eight advanced to Sunday's 11:10 a.m. final. The Bison beat runner-up Wisconsin by more than three seconds. The Badgers were the second-place boat at last year's IRA National Championship Regatta.
