ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Junior Will Bachman is just three shots off the individual lead, but as a team the Bucknell men's golf team has plenty of ground to make up at the Patriot League Championship at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course. The Bison put together rounds of 300 and 305 on Saturday, and their 605 total is fifth-best in the field, 25 shots behind first-place Army.
Bachman carded a pair of 2-over-par 73s on Saturday, and he sits in a four-way tie for fifth place. Army's Anthony Kim and Matt Krembel share the lead at 143, followed by Navy's David Hall at 144 and Army's Matt Philie at 145. Hartman, Tim Shield of Navy, Carter Rufe of Lafayette and Steve Zychowski of Holy Cross are all at 146. Shield posted the low round of the day, a 2-under 69 in the second round.
Army has a six-shot lead in the team standings. The Black Knights followed a 293 with a 287, and their 580 total is six better than host Navy. Defending champion Lafayette is third at 595, followed by Holy Cross (604), Bucknell (605), Lehigh (613) and Colgate (641).
Bucknell freshman Schuyler Stitzer is tied for 15th after shooting 75-76 on Saturday. Sophomore Jon Hartman is also in the top 20, as he sits at T-19th after rounds of 75-78.
Also for the Bison, senior Ben Mattingly posted 77-78, senior Parker Phillips shot 77-79 and sophomore Dan Bernard shot 79-82.
Bucknell, which has won three of the last five Patriot League titles, will wrap up play in Annapolis on Sunday morning.
