PHILADELPHIA – Bucknell men's track and field finally got into the mix at the Penn Relays on Friday, and the 4x100 relay did not disappoint as it ran one of the fastest times in program history and qualified for Saturday's IC4A final. Tom Barr (Ambler, Pa./La Salle College HS) and the shuttle hurdle relay also claimed top-10 finishes at Franklin Field.
The 4x100 relay – Marlon Woods (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods), Justin Hicks (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill School), Kamal Riley (Hyde Park, Mass./Charlestown) and Isaih Bell (Stone Mountain, Ga./Clarkston) – was 22nd overall in 41.63 seconds. That time is tied for fourth all-time at Bucknell and is the best put up by the Bison this season.
Barr was 10th in the Eastern division of the shot put. The junior posted a mark of 50 feet, 9 ½ inches to lead a trio of Bison. Quinten Marcott (Wayland, Mich./Wayland) was 13th (50-4 ¾), while Zachary Shapiro (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) was 26th (48-5 ½).
Bucknell's shuttle hurdle relay, which included Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence), Jason Brown (Plainview, Mass./Bishop Feehan), Dan Mularz (Englishtown, N.J./Freehold Township) and Andrew Powell (Charlton, Mass./St. John's), was eighth. The quartet crossed the line in 59.68 seconds.
The 4x100 will compete at 1:22 p.m. on Saturday. Also in action at the Penn Relays will be the 4x800 relay, Leonard Joseph (Whitesboro, N.Y./Clinton) in the hammer throw and Ted Heitzman (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) in the javelin. The remaining Bison will compete at the Bloomsburg Maroon & Gold Open beginning at noon as well.
