BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - In the final regular-season meet of the year, Bucknell track and field continued to post some of the strongest marks in program history at the unscored Bloomsburg Maroon & Gold Open on Saturday. Eight program top-10 marks fell - four men's and four women's - in the lead-up to next week's Patriot League Championships.
"It was a fantastic weekend for Bucknell track and field," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had some great results in the Penn Relays and the Bloomsburg meet went very well. We had a lot of tremendous results at Bloomsburg, which will set us up for a great league meet next week."
The sprints proved to be a boon for the women's squad. Jennifer Zymet (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) won the 200 meters in 25.08 seconds. Previously unranked on the program's record list, the freshman is now fifth all-time at Bucknell.
Zymet was later a part of the 4x100 relay that also ran the fifth-fastest time at Bucknell. After Zymet led off the relay, Kristin Funk (Mt. Pleasant, Pa./Mt. Pleasant Area), Christina Muccio (Andover, Mass./Andover) and Sasha Hornock (Dover, Pa./Dover) followed for a time of 48.14 seconds. The relay was not Funk's only impressive performance on the day. The junior won the 100-meter hurdles, while her time of 14.51 is fourth in program history. It is Funk's first appearances on the outdoor top-10 lists.
The men's team's big mark came at the middle distances as Evan Novakowski (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) took gold in the 800 meters. With his time of 1:53.16, Novakowski just snuck into the record books, besting the previous No. 10 time by two-hundredths of a second.
Program top-10 marks fell for both squads in the field events. Emily Ando (Weston, Conn./Weston) is now fifth all-time in the pole vault, having cleared 11 feet, 3 ¾ inches for the first time while competing outdoors. Fellow freshmen Alex Prieto (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro South) and Nathaniel Witter (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) moved into the top-10 in the triple jump and pole vault, respectively. Prieto's mark of 46-8 now ties him with Robert Smith and Bryan Schiding for ninth at Bucknell. Witter is tied for 10th with Adam Jacob for 10th with a height of 15-1.
A final career-best came in the men's shot put as Quinten Marcott (Wayland, Mich./Wayland) threw 52-2 ½. He is now tied with teammate Tom Barr for fourth all-time at Bucknell. Both are just over one foot shy of the school record (53-5 ½).
Bucknell's next meet will be the Patriot League Championships May 6-7. Lafayette will host in Easton, Pa.
