LEWISBURG, Pa. - Just one day after leading Bucknell to its sixth consecutive Patriot League title, the Bison women's rowing varsity eight was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week Monday. The varsity eight, which won its Sunday morning race to clinch the team title, earned Patriot League Boat of the Year honors as well.
The varsity eight had to finish one spot better than Navy and Holy Cross in the regatta's final event to secure the team crown and it defeated second-place Colgate by 3.0 seconds. It marked the sixth straight time Bucknell's varsity eight won at the Patriot League Championships as it earned Boat of the Year honors for the sixth consecutive year.
The varsity eight consisted of Katherine Anderson (coxswain), Christina Cabiati (8), Jillian O'Mara (7), Victoria Dudley (6), Katharine Watson (5), Taylor Jordan (4), Carol Schoenecker (3), Nicole Pilling (2) and Allison Martens (1). The veteran boat included five seniors and four juniors.
Seniors Dudley and Schoenecker became just the second and third student-athletes in Patriot League history to be four-time varsity eight champions. They joined current Bison assistant coach Page Kannor, a 2009 Bucknell graduate, in accomplishing that feat.
Dudley, Schoenecker and fellow varsity eight classmates Cabiati, Jordan and Martens are part of an 11-person senior class that contributed to four Patriot League titles during their time at Bucknell. It is the third consecutive Bison senior class to graduate with four Patriot League crowns.
The varsity eight was put in position to claim the deciding race because the second varsity eight won its event and the varsity four took fourth in its race.
The Patriot League Championship was held on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., the same location Bucknell won its first title in 2006.
