On Saturday morning, after six weeks of hard work on land, we were able to return to the Susquehanna and begin our spring season. As a senior, my first instinct was to worry that this was my last, first day back on the water, but as usual, the feeling of the oar in my hand and the boat underneath me took over. I forgot the worries, and simply became excited that it was finally here: the season we have been anxiously awaiting since our first day in September. Working in our familiar setting, my teammates and I began to work together once more, feeling each other out, re-familiarizing ourselves with the motions, and beginning to feel the power from our winter workouts transfer into the boat. I could feel the excitement in the boat; spring had sprung!
Of course, March comes in like a lion, and sure enough Mother Nature was at us again on Monday morning, blanketing our campus and boathouse with six inches of snow and making the river too high to row. Although we're still waiting to get on the water again, the thrill from Saturday is still present at every workout as we continue our preparation for Spring Break training next week. During those 10 days, we have a unique opportunity to be in Lewisburg without the majority of our fellow Bucknellians and focus intensely on our rowing stroke and our press to prepare us for spring racing. Our team has pushed each other over the winter months to be ready for this time, and we are eager to showcase our efforts in the coming weeks.
