PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Bucknell sent two wrestlers to the NCAA Championships and both are still alive following the first day of competition. Senior 149-pounder Kevin LeValley posted two major-decision victories Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals, while 197-pound classmate Jay Hahn went 1-1 and will wrestle Friday in the consolation bracket.
A 2010 All-American, LeValley, the third seed in the field, won his first bout Thursday, 10-2, over Old Dominion's Joey Metzler. He followed that up with a second-round, 8-0, major decision against Oregon State's Scott Sakaguchi to earn a quarterfinal berth and put him in position to earn All-America honors for the second straight season.
Hahn defeated Chattanooga's Niko Brown by an 11-7 decision in his first bout, but lost to Kent State's Dustin Kilgore in the second round by a 13-4 major decision.
LeValley will face Boise State's sixth-seeded Jason Chamberlain in Friday morning's quarterifnals, while Hahn will take on American's Daniel Mitchell in the wrestlebacks Friday morning.
