LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell sophomore guard Cameron Ayers (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) earned Patriot League Anaconda Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday after his terrific performance in his team's victory over Richmond over the weekend.
In Saturday night's 79-65 home win over the defending Atlantic-10 champion Spiders, Ayers scored 23 points, equaling his career high set earlier this season against George Mason. Ayers made 8 of 9 attempts from the field and all six from the free-throw line. In a career-high 39 minutes of action, he added two assists and three steals without committing a turnover.
A three-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week in 2010-11, this is Ayers' first career conference Player of the Week honor. He now leads the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game and leads the Patriot League in 3-point field-goal accuracy at 55.3 percent. Ayers is shooting 54.3 percent overall and 88.9 percent from the foul line, and he has just eight turnovers in 11 games while leading the Bison in minutes played.
Following the victory over Richmond, Bucknell is now 7-4 on the season and has the nation's 10th-longest home-court winning streak at 18 games. The Bison return to action on Tuesday night against the nation's No. 1-ranked team, Syracuse. The contest tips off at 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome and will be televised live on ESPNU.
