Bucknell vs. Marist Series Notes
• Bucknell and Marist have split six all-time meetings.
• Bucknell won the last meeting two seasons ago in Sojka Pavilion, 70-67 in overtime. Bucknell's other wins came in 1986-87 and 1999-2000, while Marist's victories came in 1985-86, 2007-08 and 2008-09.
• Bucknell's 54-48 victory over Marist on Nov. 20, 1999 came in the championship game of the Pepsi-Marist Classic. That is Bucknell's most recent in-season tournament win. The Bison also played in that tournament in 1994 and 2006 but did not play the host Red Foxes.
• The last time these two teams met was on Dec. 30, 2009 at Sojka Pavilion. Bryan Cohen canned a go-ahead 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, then came up with a big defensive stop and rebound in the final seconds to lift Bucknell to a 70-67 overtime win. Then-freshman Mike Muscala scored a game-high 18 points, including a clutch game-tying 3-pointer in the final minute. Cohen's big plays in the waning seconds were part of a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. Darryl Shazier also scored 16 points and had six assists, including the helpers on all three of Bucknell's field goals in overtime. Bryson Johnson also reached double digits with 11 points off the bench. Rob Johnson led Marist with 17 points.
• In the last meeting in Poughkeepsie, Ryan Schneider hit 13 of 19 shots and scored 29 points to go with nine rebounds and five steals, leading Marist to a runaway 89-63 victory over the Bison on Dec. 28, 2008. G.W. Boon had 14 points and Cohen 11 for Bucknell, but a 33-7 run in the middle part of the game was too much to overcome. Dejuan Goodwin scored 16 points and Javon Parris added 15 for the Red Foxes, who shot 50.0% from the field and made 9 of 19 3-point tries.
Bucknell vs. The MAAC
• Bucknell is 46-48 (.489) all-time against the teams that currently comprise the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. In addition to their 3-3 record against Marist, the Bison are 30-24 against Rider, , 5-1 vs. Loyola (Md.), 3-5 vs. Niagara, 2-2 vs. Manhattan, 2-4 vs. Iona, 1-0 vs. St. Peter's, 0-6 vs. Canisius, 0-2 vs. Fairfield and 0-1 vs. Siena.
Last Time Out
• Bucknell avenged last season's loss to Saint Francis (Pa.) with an emphatic 73-42 victory over the Red Flash in Saturday's home opener at Sojka Pavilion.
• Saint Francis scored the game's first basket, but then the Bison took control by scoring the next 16 points in a row. A dozen of those 16 points came from Joe Willman, who ended up with 13 points on the night. Bucknell led 37-16 at the half and by as many as 36 points late in the second half.
• Bryan Cohen finished as Bucknell's leading scorer with 15 points, along with six rebounds and four assists. Mike Muscala recorded his second double-double in three games with 14 points and 10 boards, and Cameron Ayers added 10 points and five rebounds.
More from the Saint Francis Game
• Bucknell dominated the glass in the 31-point win, outrebounding the Red Flash 45-23. That includes a 14-4 edge in offensive rebounds, which led to a 14-2 margin in second-chance points. Six different Bison grabbed at least four rebounds.
• Defensively, Bucknell held Saint Francis to 32.0 FG%. The Red Flash shot just 2-14 3FG. The Bison conceded only 16 first-half points, and Saint Francis did not get out of the 30s until scoring five points in the last 16 seconds of the game.
• Joe Willman made 6 of 9 shots from the field, his third straight game shooting 66.7 FG%.
• Ben Brackney enjoyed his best game of the year coming off the bench. He finished with eight points and four rebounds — both career highs — in 13 minutes. Brackney led an 18-point showing from the Bison bench.
• Freshman Steven Kaspar did not score in the game, but he dished out four assists and had two steals in 14 minutes.
• Freshman Cory Starkey scored his first career points on a fastbreak layup late in the contest.
• Bucknell shot 49.2 FG%, even though it struggled from 3FG range (3-13). The Bison were also uncharacteristically cool from the foul line (12-20).
