LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell record-breaking freshman diver Katie Hetherington (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) was named the Patriot League Female Diver of the Week on Monday after a strong performance at the Bucknell Invitational this past weekend. It is the second time Hetherington has been recognized this season.
Already the school record holder off the one-meter diving board, Hetherington added the three-meter board record to her resume. She won the three-meter competition with an NCAA Zone-qualifying score of 285.05, eclipsing the previous school record by 24.57 points. Allison FitzPatrick had held that record since January 2009.
Hetherington finished second off the one-meter board this past weekend with a solid score of 257.45, her second-best mark of the season, and less than eight points from the school record she established last month in her first collegiate meet.
Hetherington has now competed in four meets this year and she has never finished lower than second, totaling six gold medals and two silvers.
Bucknell (3-1, 2-1) took home the team title at its own three-day meet, beating out second-place Fordham by nearly 200 points. The Bison will be back in action Dec. 3 for a dual meet at La Salle.
