LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the three-day Bucknell Invitational starting this Friday, Nov. 18. Prelims will begin each day at 10 a.m., while the finals will be at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. on Sunday. The meet mimics the Patriot League Championships in terms of schedule of events and length. This is the 10th consecutive year Bucknell has participated in a mid-season, multi-day meet.
Colgate, Delaware, Fordham, Georgetown and La Salle will join the Bison to form a six-team field for this weekend's scored meet.
The Bison men (3-1, 2-1 Patriot League) will be competing two weeks after their Patriot League Quad Meet in Annapolis, Md. Bucknell went 2-1 in the meet, beating American and Lafayette. Senior Matthew Segar won the 200 and 400 freestyle races, winning the 200 free by 1.16 seconds, and claiming the 400 free by just .02 seconds. Teammates Mike Nicholson and Eric Sokolosky also added first-place finishes. Nicholson posted two wins late in the meet, claiming the 100 fly and 200 IM, while Sokolosky tied for first place in the 50 free.
The Bucknell women's team (3-1, 2-1 Patriot League) finished strong in the Quad Meet two weeks ago, beating American and Lafayette. Sophomore Kristen Purdy scored her first victory of the season in the 100 fly. Freshman Stephanie Koziol also stepped up by posting three top-five finishes in the meet. The 200 IM winner, Koziol was also the Bison's top finisher in the 200 fly and in the 200 back, where she placed third and fourth. Fellow rookie Katie Hetherington had another strong meet, finishing first off the one-meter board and second off the three-meter board. Hetherington currently has five first-place and one second-place showing for the season.
Both Bucknell squads will be idle for two weeks following Saturday's meet. They will next be in action on Dec. 3, when they will travel to Philadelphia to face off against La Salle in a 1 p.m. dual meet. Head coach Dan Schinnerer will have the opportunity to tie Lynn Kachmarik for fourth place on Bucknell's all-time men's wins list at that meet. Schinnerer, in his sixth year at the helm of the Bison, is 30-21 on the men's side and 31-20-1 on the women's.
