LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior linebacker Tim Bolte (Towson, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Football Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. It is the second consecutive All-District honor for Bolte, who now advances to the national Academic All-America ballot.
At least one Bucknell football player has earned Academic All-District recognition in 11 of the last 12 years. In order to be eligible for Academic All-America and All-District honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his/her team. Academic All-America awards will be announced Dec. 8.
This is the second major academic award this season for Bolte, who was named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy in September. Bolte is the first two-time Bison Academic All-District selection since David Frisbey in 2005 and 2006.
A three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll member who has earned a 4.0 grade-point average each of the last three semesters, Bolte owns a 3.93 cumulative GPA while majoring in East Asian Studies (Chinese) and political science. A six-time member of Bucknell's Dean's List, Bolte was an Academic All-District II selection last year along with eventual Academic All-American Travis Nissley. Bolte was also a member of the inaugural Patriot League All-Academic Football Team last fall.
Bolte has spent time as a tutor at Cristo Ray Jesuit High School in Baltimore, serves on the executive board of Phi Gamma Delta and is a member of Alpha Lamda Delta Honor Society and Phi Sigma Alpha Honor Society.
In addition to a full academic schedule, Bolte is currently co-writing a future publication through the Bucknell Institute of Public Policy titled "Islam and Democracy: Testing the Micro-Level Foundations".
Bolte, who plans on attending law school, completed an internship at BDP International in Shanghai, China. While there, he held American culture and English proficiency classes after work for those in the company who wanted to improve their English and learn more about the United States.
A two-year starter at linebacker, Bolte ranks second on the Bison with 55 tackles this season, boosting his career total to 133. He has started 20 consecutive games and has 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a team-high five passes defended, one interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery this season. Bolte enters this weekend's game at Fordham just two tackles shy of his career high. He has posted at least five stops in eight of the Bison's first nine contests.
Bolte moved into a starting role for the first time as a junior and finished second on the team with a career-high 57 tackles.
Bolte was one of seven Patriot League football players to be honored with Academic All-District accolades.
Bucknell (5-4) will try to clinch a winning season this weekend when it takes on Fordham at 1 p.m. in the Bronx.
