LEWISBURG, Pa. - Capping off a strong week in which Bucknell field hockey won back-to-back games for the first time this season, Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The sophomore scored the game-winning goal against Villanova on Sunday, bringing her point total to a team-best six for the week. The award is the first of the season for Misko.
Misko kicked off her week with a goal and two assists in Bucknell's 7-0 win over Holy Cross on Saturday. Her first assist came through traffic to teammate Maggie Murphy (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) who netted her first career goal, and what turned out to be the game winner, as a result. She later tagged on a goal of her own on a penalty corner to put the Bison in front 3-0, while her second assist capped off the scoring at 7-0 when she inserted the ball on another corner.
The forward's offensive production continued the following day against Villanova. The Bison drew a penalty stroke early in the second half against the Wildcats, and Misko took advantage. In her first career attempt, she put the ball in the upper left corner of the net to give Bucknell the 2-1 lead. The score held up for the remainder of the game and gave the Bison its first win over Villanova since 2006.
Misko now shares the team lead in both points (8) and goals (3) this season. The Offensive Player of the Week nod is the first of her career, although she was named the league's Rookie of the Week once last year prior to be voted the Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Patriot League.
Bucknell is now 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot League this fall. The Bison are back in action on Saturday when they host Lafayette at 12 p.m. at Graham Field. The contest is sure to be packed with energy as the two teams have met in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals each of the last three years. The Leopards won the last two postseason meetings by a single goal each time.
