LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Mike Nicholson (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) has earned the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week award for the second time in as many opportunities this year. The sophomore, who has won three races in each of the season's first two meets, captured the 100 fly, 200 fly and 1,000 free Saturday in a 168-89 victory over George Washington.
Nicholson, who already ranked in the top 10 in Bison history in the 200 breast, 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM, posted the fifth-best time in the school record book in the 1,000 free on Saturday. He swam the event for just the second time in his career and timed in at 9:40.35, 11.55 seconds ahead of the runner-up, and more than 10 seconds faster than his previous best.
The only Bison with three wins against the Colonials, Nicholson won his three events by a combined 14.83 seconds.
Monday's Patriot League award is the fifth of Nicholson's two-year career. He was cited three times last year when he was a First Team All-Patriot League selection.
Nicholson and Bucknell (1-0) will be idle this coming weekend. They will return to action Saturday, Nov. 5, for a quad meet in Annapolis, Md., against Patriot League rivals American, Lafayette and Navy.
