LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey collected a trio of awards after earning its most noteworthy victory of the season with a 3-1 decision over American on Saturday. Katie Durkin (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week and the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week after scoring the game winner against the Eagles. Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was also cited as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week.
Durkin recorded perhaps the best performance of her career against American, scoring two goals to push the Bison past the Eagles. Durkin's first goal of the day gave the Bison a 2-1 advantage three minutes into the start of the second half as she tipped a rebound past the Eagles' goalkeeper. She later gave Bucknell some insurance as she again scored at close range with 5:19 left in the game. Her first career multi-goal game resulted in Bucknell's first win over American since 2001.
The junior now has four goals on the season, ranking second on the squad. It is the first time in her career that Durkin has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week or the Susquehanna Valley Limo Bison Athlete of the Week.
Perrine's Goalkeeper of the Week honor is also a career first. The sophomore made 11 saves while playing every minute in goal against American. It was the second consecutive game in which Perrine earned a career high in saves after she also turned away nine shots against Towson on Oct. 16. The victory gave Bucknell its 300th overall win in program history.
Perrine has a team-best 61 saves and a 2.13 goals-against average on the year, and her record now stands at 6-6. She also claimed her first career shutout earlier this season when she helped the Bison to a 7-0 decision over Holy Cross.
Durkin is the second Bison to be named the league's Offensive Player of the Week this season, joining Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) who received the honor on Oct. 3. She also joins Vickie Resh (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) as field hockey's Bison Athlete of the Week honorees this season. Perrine is the first Bucknellian this fall to be recognized as the league's leading goalkeeper.
Bucknell, which is 6-9 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League, has a lot on its plate this week. The Bison will start with a 6 p.m. matchup against No. 8 Penn State on Tuesday at Graham Field. The game, which is the last of the year on Bucknell's home turf, will stream live on Bison Vision. Bucknell will then travel to Colgate for the Patriot League regular-season finale at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y. The winner of that game will advance to the conference tournament next month. Finally, the Bison will travel to No. 6 Syracuse for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday.
