SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 17 Bucknell men's water polo team opened the two-day Santa Clara Rodeo on Saturday and lost a pair of games to ranked opponents. The Bison opened their stretch of facing four top-15 opponents in a 26-hour span with a 15-1 loss to No. 3 Stanford. Just a few hours after the conclusion of that contest, Bucknell was nipped by No. 12 UC Davis by a tight 12-11 margin.
Against the Cardinal, which was ranked No. 1 in the country last week, the Bison managed just one goal, a second-quarter score by Spencer Richley. Matt Napleton and Keegan Williams did combine to make 11 saves in goal.
In the nightcap, Bucknell led UC Davis by three goals in the fourth quarter, but the Aggies came back for the one-goal victory.
The Bison will wrap up play at the Santa Clara Rodeo Sunday against No. 15 Santa Clara and No. 6 Pepperdine.
