CHARLESTON, S.C. --The Bucknell women's golf team was just a few holes away from posting three great scores on Tuesday in the final round of the Wendy's Invitational at Coosaw Creek CC. The Bison still had a good day, shooting 309 as a team to finish in sixth place out of 16 teams. Bucknell was also first among the five Big South teams in the field, besting Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Radford and Presbyterian.
The Bison, who won this event last year, were in contention throughout. With a 619 total for 36 holes, they finished just four shots behind fifth-place Wofford. Marshall won the event with a total of 605, followed by UAB and Stetson at 610 and Appalachian State at 613.
Bucknell topped Big South rival Charleston Southern by a single stroke, while Gardner-Webb and Radford were two shots behind the Bison at 621. Bucknell finished third at last year's Big South Championship behind Coastal Carolina and Gardner-Webb.
Scott finished tied for seventh individually, her second top-10 of the season. She backed up an opening-round 74 with a 75 on Tuesday. Bucknell started its final round on hole No. 10, and Scott birdied her first hole of the day to get off to a good start. She was cruising along at even par for the day until the par-4 17th, when she made a triple-bogey. Scott bounced back with consecutive birdies at 3 and 4 and then finished with four straight pars for her 75.
Bridget Wilcox also shot 75 on Tuesday. She fired a 1-under 35 on the back nine (her first nine of the day) and was even for the day until back-to-back double-bogeys at 2 and 3. Wilcox pulled it together, though, and parred her final six holes of the afternoon.
Minjoo Lee made three birdies in her final round, but a couple of slips on the front nine prevented a really good score. Lee shot 78 in round two after opening with a 77.
Also for the Bison, Brittany Rendell carded an 81 and Lauren Bernard shot 84.
Natalie Schmett of Jacksonville took home the individual title on a match of cards with Marshall's Allison Harper. Schmett and Harper both finished at 1-over-par 143.
Scott finished second individually among all Big South players, trailing only Kasay Holbrook of Presbyterian, who shot 148 to Scott's 149.
Bucknell has one more fall tournament remaining, the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island Oct. 23-24.
