GETTYSBURG, Pa. – With its top runners resting after yesterday's Penn State National Invitational, Bucknell women's cross country sent its second squad to the Gettysburg Invitational and walked away as the runner-up in the team standings on Saturday. Freshman Katie Jessee (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) earned her second consecutive top-10 finish, placing sixth overall as the first rookie to complete the six-kilometer course.
Jessee, who was fourth overall at last week's Father Bede Invitational, crossed the finish line in 24:16, putting her well ahead of the rest of the Bison. Hana Casalnova (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) was second on the team and 15th overall in 24:43. Ali Foote (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and Kady Weisner (Saint Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) were next in 18th and 20th, respectively.
Kirstin Rudd (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) rounded out the scoring five for Bucknell. Just outside the group was Erin Holbrook (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), who was the only other Bison in the top 25. The sophomore placed 23rd, one spot behind Rudd as both finished in 25:01.
As a unit, Bucknell finished with 74 points, putting it second in the team standings behind first-place Malone's 41 points. Earning the individual title in 23:24 was Ivette Mejia of Saint Vincent College.
Up next for the Bison are the Patriot League Championships. Bucknell will return to Lehigh on Oct. 29 for a shot at reclaiming the title for the ninth time in program history.
