Bucknell Football's Travis Nissley Named to FCS Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell football senior linebacker Travis Nissley (Mount Joy, Pa./Manheim Central) added yet another academic award to his resume on Tuesday when he was named to the 13th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team. Additionally, Nissley was one of eight finalists selected from the 52-person team who have a chance at earning the 10th annual FCS ADA $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.
The two winners of the $5,000 postgraduate scholarship will be announced at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Convention, held at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla., June 16-18. The other finalists are seniors Chance Coda, Southern Illinois, DL, 4.0; Kyle Glazier, Western Illinois, LB, 3.88; Tim McGraw, Northern Colorado, OL, 4.0; Dave Pickard, Southern Illinois, OL, 4.0; Tanner Scott, Dartmouth, WR, 3.83; Erik Stoll, Montana, DB, 3.92; and Brandon Wingeier, Dayton, DL, 3.78.
Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for the ADA's awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletic credentials. He must have reached his second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. He must also have participated in 50 percent of the games played at his designated position. A total of 92 student-athletes were nominated.
Nissley was one of just three Patriot League players recognized as he was joined by Colgate's Greg Sullivan and Mike McCabe from Holy Cross.
The FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team award is the latest in a long line of academic awards for Nissley, who is a two-time Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Bucknell's 119th Academic All-American, a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete and he was a finalist for the Campbell Trophy, earning him an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Nissley, who was a member of the inaugural Patriot League All-Academic Football Team this past fall, posted three perfect 4.0 GPAs in his first six semesters and has been a regular member of Bucknell's Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll during his time in Orange and Blue. He was also elected to Tau Beta Pi, a National Engineering Honor Society, was a recipient of the Charles F. White Memorial Prize for scholar-athletes and is a member of the Bucknell Classics Club. Additionally, Nissley has volunteered with Toys for Tots and the National Marrow Donor Program.
On the football field, Nissley finished the 2010 campaign with a team-high 63 tackles, and his 256 career stops were most among current Bison. He also posted 2.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup. Nissley finished his career with two double-figure tackle outings in his last four games, including a team-high 10 in his final contest at Holy Cross.
A three-year starter who played in all 44 games over the last four years, Nissley recorded a career-high 93 tackles as a junior to rank sixth in the Patriot League.
A team co-captain, Nissley started 19 games in a row to end his career and finished his four years with 7.5 tackles for loss, one interception and four pass breakups.
