LEWISBURG, Pa. - Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford), Matthew Segar (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), Jonathan Podniesinski (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) and Bryce Suchomel (Aurora, Colo./Regis) combined for five first-place finishes and David Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro Area) posted season-best scores off both diving boards as the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team concluded its regular season Saturday afternoon with the Bison Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. Bucknell was joined by Patriot League rival American and Connecticut in the three-team, unscored meet.
Sokolosky earned two of the Bison's five first-place finishes as he won the 100-yard backstroke and the 100 fly. His time of 50.76 seconds in the 100 fly was a season best and the best by a Bucknell swimmer this year.
Segar also posted a season-best time in his victory in the 200 fly. He touched the wall in 1:54.99, marking his second win in the event in four tries this year.
Suchomel was one of two Bison to finish in the top five of the 100 free as Stephen McMillin (Schwenksville, Pa./Germantown Academy) claimed fifth in the event. Suchomel timed in at 48.72 seconds for the victory.
Podniesinski added a win in the 400 IM in a time of 4:10.02. He won the race by more than 4.5 seconds over the runner-up from Connecticut, while Matt Ramey (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Southmoreland) claimed third.
Magaro was the lone Bison to post two season-bests as he exceeded a score of 270 off both diving boards to take runner-up honors in both events. His one-meter score of 270.45 beat out his previous season best by nearly two points, while he posted an impressive 275.70 off the three-meter.
Connecticut won 12 of the 17 events contested, while American's top finish was second, which occurred three times.
Bucknell will next take to the water in just under three weeks for the Patriot League Championships, which will be held at Kinney Natatorium Feb. 17-19. It will be the fifth time the facility has hosted the Patriot League Championships.
