LEWISBURG, Pa. - A busy weekend is ahead for the Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams. The Bison, who have their final tune-ups before next month's Patriot League Championships, will host Connecticut in a dual meet Friday night at 6 p.m. Approximately 15 hours after the end of that meet, Bucknell will jump back into the pool for Saturday's Bison Invitational, which commences at noon. Both events will take place in Kinney Natatorium.
Bucknell's six seniors will be honored prior to Friday's dual with the Huskies as part of Senior Night festivities. Michael Volpe and Brendan Wills are the two men's seniors, while Molly Goebel, Macey Keath, Sinead O'Dwyer and Laura Twichell are the four women who will be recognized.
Saturday's Bison Invitational will consist of just three teams as Bucknell, Connecticut and Patriot League foe American will compete. It will be the final regular-season event for the Bison before the Patriot League Championships, which will take place at Kinney Natatorium Feb. 17-19.
Men's Notebook:
- Bucknell is 6-4 overall this year and finished the regular-season with a 4-2 mark against Patriot League opponents. The Bison snapped a three-meet losing streak last weekend with a 170-122 victory over Lehigh.
- Bucknell has now had a student-athlete recognized by the Patriot League each of the last two weeks. Freshman Mike Nicholson was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 17 after six first-place finishes in two meets against Army and Columbia. This past Monday, sophomore David Magaro was cited as the Patriot League Male Diver of the Week after sweeping both boards against Lehigh. Bucknell has now had five weekly award winners this season.
- Friday's meet will be the first-ever dual between Bucknell and Connecticut.
- Bucknell enters Friday's meet with an all-time record of 22-16 at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison are 4-3 at home this year.
- Connecticut brings a 5-1 record into Friday's meet. The Huskies have defeated Georgetown, Villanova, Army, Penn and Seton Hall, while their lone loss was to Harvard.
- American, which will participate in Saturday's Bison Invitational, is 2-9 this season.
Women's Notebook:
- Bucknell is 7-4 overall and 4-2 against Patriot League foes. The Bison have won three of their last four dual meets with each victory coming by at least 83 points. Bucknell will be looking for its first season with more than seven wins since it went 11-2 in 1997-98.
- Junior diver Jennifer Kokoska was the lone Bison to post a top-10 mark during last week's dual vs. Lehigh. She scored a career-best 198.08 off the three-meter board. That mark ranks her ninth on the program's all-time list.
- Bucknell and Connecticut have never competed in a dual meet.
- The Bison have won 10 of their last 13 home meets and are 30-10-1 overall at Kinney Natatorium since it opened in 2002-03.
- Connecticut is 4-2 this year. The Huskies have wins over Georgetown, Rutgers, Army and Seton Hall, while the Huskies' two losses are to Rutgers and Penn.
- American, which will participate in Saturday's Bison Invitational, is 1-11 this season.
