LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell track and field is officially on a run with league honors. Leonard Joseph (Whitesboro, N.Y./Clinton) claimed his third consecutive Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week accolade on Monday, while Jennifer Zymet (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) was named the Rookie of the Week, giving the Bison women's team the top newcomer award for the second straight week.
Joseph's honor followed a first-place finish in the weight throw at the Bucknell Heptagonal on Saturday. The sophomore recorded an IC4A-qualifying mark of 55 feet, 2 ¼ inches to earn his second title of the season. His performance helped the Orange and Blue to another team victory, taking first in a field of seven teams.
Joseph, who ranks seventh all-time at Bucknell in the weight throw, has finished in the top two of the event in each of his last three meets. He was also named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 10 and Jan. 17, making him the only athlete to earn a weekly citation on three occasions this season.
Zymet earned her first career honor after placing third in the 400 meters and ninth in the 200 at the Bucknell Heptagonal. With a time of 58.28 in the 400, the freshman broke onto a program top-10 list for the third straight meet, ranking 10th all-time at Bucknell. She also ranks fifth in the sprint medley and ninth in the 200 and 500 meters. Zymet's performance on Saturday helped the Bison to a second-place showing as a team.
Bucknell has now claimed each of the last two Rookie of the Week honors on the women's side. Hana Casalnova (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) was cited a week ago, giving the Bison their first women's award of the season.
Bucknell will have plenty to look forward to during the upcoming weekend. In addition to hosting the Bison Open & Multi Jan. 28-29, the Orange and Blue will split squads and head to the Penn State National Invitational on the same day. The men's 4x400 relay will also compete at the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Friday.
