LEWISBURG, Pa. - Matthew Segar (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), Mike Nicholson (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley), Eric Sokolosky (Branford, Conn./Branford) and David Magaro (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro Area) each won two events to help lead a balanced Bucknell men's swimming and diving team to a 170-122 Patriot League victory over Lehigh Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison improved to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in Patriot League action.
Nicholson, who won a total of six races in two duals last weekend, claimed the 200-yard butterfly and the 200 breaststroke against the Mountain Hawks on Saturday. His time in the 200 individual medley (1:55.12) was the fastest in that race as well, but he swam it as an exhibition since the outcome of the meet was no longer in doubt. Perhaps Nicholson's most impressive performance came in the 200 fly, where he was one of four Bison to finish in the top five. His time of 1 minute, 52.18 seconds was just .06 seconds off his season-best mark that ranks seventh in program history.
Segar's wins came in the 200 and 500 free events. He was one of four Bucknell swimmers in the top five of the 500 free, while he won the 200 free by nearly three seconds over runner-up Frank Cuzzola of Lehigh.
Sokolosky was just as strong in his sweep of the 50 and 100 free. He claimed the 50 free by .50 seconds, while his victory in the 100 free was by 1.44 seconds over teammate Christian Treat (Evergreen, Colo./Clear Creek).
Magaro swept both boards with nearly identical marks. He scored a season-best 268.73 off the one-meter board and a 268.65 off the three-meter, earning 18 team points in the process.
Bucknell won 12 of the 14 events prior to its swimmers exhibitioning the final two events (200 IM, 400 free relay). Other winners for the Bison included Treat in the 100 breast, Thomas Brown (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) in the 200 back, Trevor Reitz (Boynton Beach, Fla./Gulliver Prep) in the 100 fly and the 200 medley relay squad of Brown, Treat, Reitz and Sokolosky that posted the third-fastest time by a Bison quartet in that event this year. Reitz's winning time of 51.08 in the 100 fly was a season best for the freshman.
Bucknell has now won three of the last four meets against Lehigh, which lost its second consecutive meet this year to fall to 8-2 overall and 3-2 against Patriot League foes.
The Bison will return to the pool Friday, Jan. 28, when they swim against Connecticut at 6 p.m.
