LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey's Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary) was named ECAC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, giving the junior goalkeeper her third honor of the week. Zargarpour allowed just one goal in 165 minutes of play last weekend in a pair of tight contests against Sacred Heart and Indiana.
Zargarpour, who was also selected as the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week and the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, made four saves in Bucknell's 4-3 stroke-off win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. After shutting out the Pioneers in the first half, she re-entered the game for the overtime periods and did not allow her opponents to capitalize on any of their three strokes.
Zargarpour played all 100 minutes against Indiana on Sunday and gave up just one goal. She also turned away two strokes against the Hoosiers before they won on their ninth attempt, leading to a 2-1 win. Her 10 saves against Indiana marked a career high.
The ECAC Defensive Player of the Week honor is the second of Zargarpour's career. She also received the award on Sept. 14 after shutting out Cornell and Towson in back-to-back games to give Bucknell its first wins of the season. Her Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week nod was also the second of her career, while the Bison Athlete of the Week selection was her first.
Zargarpour posted a .933 save percentage and a 0.42 goals against average for the week. She now has a 2.15 GAA for the season to go along with her .721 save percentage and 49 saves.
Bucknell's extended stay at home has come to a close, and the team will hit the road for Holy Cross and Harvard this weekend. The Bison will take on the Crusaders at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Worcester, Mass., followed by the Crimson at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Cambridge, Mass.
