LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team had an exciting record with two home games being decided on strokes 24 hours apart this past weekend. Two of the individuals that provided plenty of excitement in the contests were honored on Monday. Junior goalie Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary) was named both the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week and the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, while freshman midfielder Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Zargarpour earned her first career Bison Athlete of the Week citation and her second Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honor in the last three weeks thanks to allowing just one goal in 165 minutes of play this past weekend. She played the first half and both overtime periods of a 4-3 stroke-off win over Sacred Heart on Saturday and made four saves and did not allow the Pioneers to convert any of their three strokes.
On Sunday, Zargarpour played all 100 minutes against Indiana and yielded just one second-half goal. She totaled a career-high 10 saves and turned away a pair of the Hoosiers' strokes before they finally won on their ninth attempt, leading to a 2-1 victory.
Zargarpour posted a .933 save percentage for the week and a 0.42 goals-against average. She now has 49 saves and a 2.15 goals-against average on the season.
Misko, who is tied for the team lead in goals (4) with seniors Morgan Kauffman and Christine Weiss, scored a goal in each of Bucknell's two games over the weekend. She gave the Bison a 3-2 advantage in the second half against Sacred Heart and tallied Bucknell's only goal in the 2-1 loss to Indiana. Her goal against the Hoosiers came early in the second half and staked the Orange and Blue to a 1-0 lead.
A starter in all nine games this season, Misko is tied for third on the team with eight points.
The Bison, who recently completed a five-game homestand, will head on the road this coming weekend as they will play at Holy Cross on Saturday and Harvard on Sunday. Bucknell is 3-6 overall this season, including 3-3 at Graham Field.
