LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey will try to push its home record past .500 this weekend as it hosts Sacred Heart and Indiana in the last of a five-game stretch at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. The Bison will take on the Pioneers on Saturday, followed by the Hoosiers on Sunday. Both contests are slated for 1 p.m. with live stats on GameTracker available at BucknellBison.com.
Bucknell recently added another Bison Vision game to its schedule. Field hockey fans will now be able to watch the Bison take on Lafayette live at BucknellBison.com at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 in Easton, Pa. The final field hockey contest to be broadcast on Bison Vision is set for the next day as Bucknell hosts Columbia at 1 p.m.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell, which was ranked 34th in the NCAA RPI as of Sept. 21, is 2-5 on the season after taking a tough 2-1 loss to Lock Haven last week. Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) broke a scoreless tie in the second half, but the Bison were unable to hold on down the stretch.
- Misko has two goals on the season, which leads Bucknell freshmen. The rookie also has recorded just two shots in her debut campaign, making her one of the most efficient Bison on the field.
- Despite its young team, Bucknell has been relying heavily on its seniors in 2010. Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) and Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) share the team lead in goals (3) and points (8) this season, and fellow senior Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh) also has three goals. Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) is tops on the squad in assists with four.
- Bruvik recorded her second assist of the season on Misko's goal against Lock Haven last week. Despite being Bucknell's second-leading point scorer entering the season, this marks the first season in which Bruvik has recorded multiple helpers. The senior opens the weekend with 42 career points on 19 goals and four assists.
- Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth Academy) has earned the bulk of the time in goal for Bucknell this season having played 455 minutes out of a possible 490:00. That total is also a single-season high for the junior, who entered the season with 452:26 in her career.
- This weekend marks the end of Bucknell's longest homestand of the season. The Bison are 2-2 overall at Graham Field with wins over Cornell (3-0) and Towson (4-0).
- Head coach Jeremy Cook will be looking for some success against his old team when the Bison take on Indiana on Sunday. Cook served as an assistant with the Hoosiers in 2007.
- Bucknell lost its first and only meeting with Sacred Heart last year. The Pioneers snuck past the Bison 4-3 in overtime in Fairfield, Conn. Kauffman nabbed one of Bucknell's three goals that day, and Marci Richard (Oley Valley, Pa./Oley Valley) added an assist. Leading the way for Sacred Heart was Dana Luhrs with two goals.
- Bucknell and Indiana split their previous two meets. The Bison took the first game 4-0 in 2000, but the Hoosiers got their revenge in 2004, winning 3-2.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- Sacred Heart comes to Lewisburg with a 1-6 record after losing 4-0 to Drexel on Sept. 17. The Pioneers' lone win came against Holy Cross in a 2-0 shutout earlier this month.
- Karly Duven and Stephanie Fazio share the team lead in goals this season with two apiece. Fazio also leads in points with five. Kim Stow has played every minute in goal for the Pioneers, earning a 3.86 goals against average to go along with a .693 save percentage.
- Sacred Heart posted a 4-15 record overall and a 3-5 tally in the Northeast Conference a year ago. The Pioneers placed two players on the All-NEC Team, but only Luhrs, a second-team selection, returns. Luhrs has one goal and one assist after the team's first seven games in 2010.
ABOUT THE HOOSIERS
- Indiana's stop at Graham Field on Sunday will conclude its Pennsylvania tour. The Hoosiers will put their 4-2 record on the line when they open their road trip with Big Ten foe Penn State on Friday night. Indiana has played some close games this season, as their widest margin of victory was a 4-1 decision over Missouri State. Other wins for the Hoosiers include Massachusetts (2-1), California (4-2) and Miami (Ohio) (2-1).
- In the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, Indiana was among those teams receiving votes. The Hoosiers finished 2009 ranked 13th in the national poll.
- Morgan Fleetwood leads the team in points (8) and is among the top goal-scorers in the early stages of the season. Fleetwood, Shareyna Chang and Kelsey Kiper have each totaled three goals. Keeper Becky Panny has earned every decision for the Hoosiers with a 1.33 goals against average and a .765 save percentage.
- Indiana ended the 2009 season with a 14-7 overall record, and the team's 4-2 tally in the Big Ten tied them for second in the conference. The Hoosiers also made their second NCAA Tournament appearance since the program began in 2000, but fell 2-0 to Wake Forest. Corey Brautigam was named a Third Team All-American by Longstreth/NFHCA. She and Fleetwood also earned All-Big Ten accolades.
LOOKING AHEAD
After spending six of the last seven games at Graham Field, the Bison will return to the road for the first time since Sept. 5. Bucknell will open its Patriot League schedule at Holy Cross at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2. The team will then take on Harvard at 2 p.m. on Oct. 3 in Cambridge, Mass.
