LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell field hockey will try to take its winning streak to three games when it hosts Lock Haven at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Graham Field in the first of the team's live Bison Vision broadcasts. The Bison (2-4), which have not allowed a goal in two contests, are also looking for their first victory over the Lady Eagles in 11 years as they head into the final stretch of the season's longest homestand. In addition to live internet video on Bison Vision, live stats on GameTracker for the Bucknell-Lock Haven matchup will also be available at BucknellBison.com.
ABOUT THE BISON
- Bucknell claimed its first two wins of the season, shutting out Cornell (3-0) and Towson (4-0) last weekend. The pair of strong performances led to a handful of awards for the Bison. Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth Academy) was selected as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week. She also earned an honorable mention nod from womensfieldhockey.com. The junior stopped all 10 shots she faced and recorded her first set of back-to-back shutouts. Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) was also named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after finishing with two goals and an assist for a team-best five points over the course of the two games.
- Zargarpour's recognition from the ECAC is the first by a Bison field hockey player since Nov. 1, 2006. Emily Groendyke (2004-06), who ranks in the top 15 in program annals in career saves, wins and shutouts, was named the ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week twice that season.
- Bucknell held Towson to eight shots last Sunday, the fewest by a Bison opponent this year.
- Bruvik's two goals last weekend – one each vs. Cornell and Towson – moved her into a tie for 13th all-time at Bucknell. The senior co-captain now has 19 scores in her career.
- Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) also moved up the record lists with two goals against Towson. The forward enters the new week with 62 career points, ranking eighth all-time. She now needs two more points to pass Kelly O'Brien (2002-05) for seventh on the ledger.
- Kauffman and Bruvik share the team lead in goals with Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh), as each member of the trio has three scores this season. Kauffman, who tallied more points than any other Bison in 2009, has a slim lead over all of her teammates in points again this season with eight. Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) is tops on the squad in assists with four.
- Mallory Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) recorded the first two assists of her career last weekend, earning one in each contest. The helpers also gave the junior her first points of the season.
- Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) capped off the scoring against Towson with a successful penalty stroke. The sophomore is 2-for-3 in penalty strokes for her career.
- Bucknell's freshmen also continued to make an impact offensively as Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison) netted her first career goal against Cornell last Saturday. She joins classmates Jennifer LaBarre (Walnutport, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), who scored vs. Saint Joseph's, and Hannah Jones (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area), who drew an assist against Albany, as the top freshman point-getters.
- Bucknell trails in the all-time series with Lock Haven 4-23-1. When the two teams met last year, Lock Haven claimed a 1-0 victory on a goal by Amy Hordendorf, extending the Lady Eagles' winning streak to eight games. The last time the Bison came away with a win was in 2000 as Dena Ebert scored twice to propel Bucknell to a 2-1 overtime victory. Lock Haven went on to win the NCAA Division II National Championship that season.
- Each of Bucknell's four victories has come by a single goal. In addition to their 2-1 overtime win in 2000, the Bison also won 3-2 in overtime in 1999, 1-0 in 1997 and 2-1 in 1988.
ABOUT LADY EAGLES
- Lock Haven is 2-4 this season with its most recent game ending in a loss at No. 16 Penn State, 3-1, last Sunday. Lock Haven also fell 1-0 to Cornell earlier in the season. The Lady Eagles' two wins have come against Saint Francis (Pa.) (4-0) and Longwood (2-1).
- Hordendorf leads Lock Haven in goals and points this year. The senior has claimed five of the team's nine goals so far, tallying 10 points. Hordendorf also finished 2009 atop the Lady Eagles' stat lists, posting 23 goals and four assists for 50 points. In six games this season, goalkeeper Erin Terreson is 2-4 with a 1.83 goals against average and a save percentage of .694.
- Lock Haven finished the 2009 campaign 18-5 overall and 7-1 in the Northeast Conference. The Lady Eagles have since left the NEC, however, and are now an affiliate member of the Atlantic-10. In six years with the NEC, Lock Haven was 43-3 in conference meetings.
- The Lady Eagles had a clear scoring advantage in 2009. Lock Haven put the ball in the net 66 times, compared to 22 for its opponents.
