LEWISBURG, Pa. - Just one day after being named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, Bucknell field hockey's Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Academy) was selected as the ECAC Division I Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. The honor from the East Coast Athletic Conference is the first of Zargarpour's career and the first by a Bison since Emily Groendyke was named Goalkeeper of the Week in November 2006.
Zargarpour's Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week nod yesterday was also the first of her career. Both honors came after posting a 2-0 record in goal against Cornell and Towson. Even more impressively, Zargarpour stopped all 10 shots she faced and earned back-to-back shutouts for the first time in her career.
By holding both of last weekend's opponents scoreless, Zargarpour now has three career shutouts. The junior also blanked Saint Francis (Pa.) in 2008. That total places her in a tie for 10th in program history.
Zargarpour is 2-3 on the season with a .660 save percentage and a 2.91 goals against average.
Bucknell earned its first wins of the season last weekend, taking a 3-0 decision over Cornell on Saturday, followed by a 4-0 victory against Towson, both at Graham Field at Holmes Stadium. The contests marked the beginning of a five-game homestand for the Bison. That stretch on their home turf continues this Thursday with a matchup against Lock Haven. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. The Bison-Lady Eagles showdown can also be seen live on Bison Vision at BucknellBison.com.
