LEWISBURG, Pa. - More than 30 years after graduation, former Bucknell swimmer Dan Richards '78 is still spending plenty of time in the water. This past Tuesday he completed a 21-mile swim across the English Channel in 12 hours, 32 minutes.
Richards and his brother, Scott, who crossed the English Channel three years ago, are only the second set of siblings to ever swim across both the English Channel and the Catalina Channel, off the coast of California. An avid openwater swimmer, Dan Richards completed the 22-mile Catalina Channel in 2008 in just over 10 hours and has also finished the 24-mile Tampa Bay Marathon Swim.
A Miami, Fla., native, Richards and his wife, former Bison swimmer Chris (Petterjohn '76) Richards, provided a $1.5 million lead gift to endow the Bison men's and women's water polo programs in honor of their former coach Dick Russell last summer.
Richards was recently named to Bucknell's Board of Trustees.
