LEWISBURG, Pa. - Another chapter in the evolution of the Bucknell women's golf program will be written this fall when three outstanding newcomers join coach Kevin Jamieson's program. The newest members of the Bison will be Lauren Bernard of Malvern, Pa., Kasha Scott of Cherry Hills Village, Colo., and Bridget Wilcox of Bernardsville, N.J.
"Statistically speaking this is probably the strongest incoming class we've ever had," said Jamieson. "This class has excellent national tournament exposure with outstanding results. They are all coming in with a tremendous amount of experience, and I expect each of them to be immediate impact players."
Bernard recently graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova, Pa., where she lettered in both tennis and golf. On the links she shot 1-over par to win the 2010 Inter-Ac individual title by five shots, while leading her team to its second straight championship and first-ever undefeated season. Bernard was a four-time All-Inter-Ac selection and a two-year team captain. Her brother, Dan, will be a sophomore member of the Bucknell men's golf team next year.
Scott is a 2010 graduate of Cherry Creek High School, where she was student body president as well as a four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain in golf. Scott played in the No. 1 position all four years in high school, and she led her team to four straight Colorado 5A regional championships, the 2007 Colorado 5A state championship, as well as state runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2010.
In March 2010, Scott fired a career-best round of 2-under 70 at Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont, Colo., a round that included a course-record 5-under on the front nine. Last month she posted a 218 at the Colorado Open, placing third in the ProAm Division. A year ago, Scott competed in a PGA Junior Series event at the Penn State Blue Course, where she posted an even-par 72 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 231. She has also represented Colorado at the Big I National Championship in Boise, Idaho, the Optimist International National Championship at PGA National, and the Junior World in San Diego. Scott was a Colorado Golf Association player representative board member in 2008-09.
Scott is currently enjoying an outstanding summer, as she recently won the Colorado state qualifier for the Big I Trusted Choice National Championship. She opened with a 2-over 74 and clinched the win with a bogey-free 72 in the final round. Next week she will be competing at the USGA U.S. Amateur qualifier at Green Gables Country Club near Denver.
Wilcox is a 2010 graduate of the Taft School in Watertown, Conn. She was a four-year golf letterwinner and was a four-time Founders League All-Star. She played in the No. 1 position all four years and won New England Championship individual and team titles. Wilcox captained the team as a junior and won Golf Awards as a junior and senior. She placed third in the New Jersey State Junior Girls Championship.
Wilcox has played in several Future Collegians World Tour events, and she reached quarterfinals of the New Jersey State Women's Amateur last summer. Like Scott, she also played in the PGA Junior Series tournament at Penn State, posting a 54-hole total of 141 after an opening 77.
The Bison women's golf team is coming off a strong season in which team and individual 18-hole records were broken, and only one senior was lost from that group. Rising junior Minjoo Lee shot a 2-under 70 in the opening round of the Big South Championship at The Patriot Club in South Carolina, the first sub-par round in program history. Lee was the individual leader after each of the first two rounds, making her the first Bison player ever to lead after any round of the championship. She went on to finish in fourth place to each All-Big South honors for the first time, and she was also named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Rising senior Katie Jurenovich posted her second career top-10 finish at the Big South event. On day two the Bison posted a school-record 303 team score, breaking the previous mark of 307 set in the fall at the Princeton Invitational.
Bucknell has an action-packed fall season around the corner. After opening with their own annual tournament, the Bison will later play in two tournaments hosted by Big Ten schools, first at Penn State and then at Wisconsin. Bucknell will also play in events at Rutgers and Akron in the fall.
