LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey coaches Jeremy Cook and Jamie Whitten and defender Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) will travel to Virginia Beach, Va., for the USA Field Hockey High Performance Championships next week. The tournament, featuring eight Senior and four Junior teams from around the country, is slated for June 20-26.
Cook will serve as the head coach of the Pennsylvania Junior Team, while Siegrist will play with the Junior squad from the central Pennsylvania region. Whitten will make her seventh playing appearance at the tournament, competing on Pennsylvania's Senior High Performance team.
The championships are the culmination of a two-month regional Olympic Development program made up of the best players from several regions divided onto Junior and Senior squads. The training squads were then used to select a travel team of 18 from each site. Teams will compete for a championship at the Junior and Senior level.
Bucknell finished the 2009 season at 12-7 overall and 4-1 in the Patriot League, taking a share of the league's regular-season title for the first time in program history. Siegrist played an integral part of the Bison's defense throughout the successful season, limiting opponents to less than two goals per game. Bucknell's 2010 schedule gets underway Aug. 28 at Temple with the home opener slated for Sept. 4 vs. Albany at Graham Field.
