LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen), a member of the Bison women's swimming and diving team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, May 4.
Warren won the Christy Mathewson Award, presented to "the outstanding senior athletes." Warren shared the award with Andy Rendos of the wrestling team, who was the male selection.
Warren, who was recently named a Mid-Major All-American by CollegeSwimming.com, had an outstanding career at Bucknell, culminating in her second Patriot League title in the 100 back and her second consecutive ECAC title in the same event. She was the only Bison to win a Patriot League event during her four years, while she is the lone person in school history to win two career ECAC crowns.
The Bucknell and Patriot League record-holder in the 100 back (54.55), Warren ranks in the top 10 in program history in four different events, and was a member of 14 relay squads that posted top-10 times.
A four-time All-Patriot League selection, Warren was a First Team All-League choice for the second time in her career this past year. At this year's championship meet, Warren finished third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 free, giving her three top-five showings. Her 50 points scored ranked tied for seventh in the league, and she was part of four top-three relay squads.
A animal behavior major, Warren owns a 3.32 cumulative grade-point average, helping her to earn the Patriot League Women's Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the season. She has spent time volunteering at LAPS animal shelter, T&D's exotic wildlife rescue organization, at a local Community Harvest Kitchen and at Riverwoods Retirement Home. The team co-captain has also competed in the Passionman Triathlon and has taught swimming lessons for two years.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 15 of 19 years, including 11 of the last 12.
