LEWISBURG, Pa. - Austin Winter (Boonton Twp., N.J./Mountain Lakes) capped off an impressive lacrosse career at Bucknell, being recognized as Honorable Mention All-America from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) on Thursday. The senior attackman became Bucknell's first ever three-time All-American after also earning honorable mention nods in 2008 and 2009.
Winter made history earlier this year as well. The co-captain led Bucknell in point production for the fourth consecutive season with 44 points on 21 goals and 23 assists. His performance in 2010 earned him All-Patriot League accolades for the fourth straight year, making him the only Bison to be named to the First Team in every campaign.
This season, Winter recorded a nine-point game with two goals a career-high seven assists against Lafayette. He also led Bucknell to its fourth consecutive Patriot League Tournament with the game-winning goal against Colgate in the regular-season finale. The score gave the Bison the 8-7 sudden-death victory and helped keep Winter's point streak alive. The senior scored at least one point in every game in 2010 and in 58 of his 59 career appearances.
Winter is one of only three players in school history to record 100 career assists and finished his career ranked No. 3 all-time with 117. His 194 points were fourth-most in program history. He also ranks fourth in assists and tied for sixth in points on the Patriot League all-time lists.
While he is the first in Bucknell history to be named an All-American three times, Winter is one of five Bison to earn multiple honors in their careers. He joins two-time All-Americans Chris Cara in 2004 and 2005, Justin Zackey in 1993 and 1994, Peter von Hoffmann in 1977 and 1979, and Lou Kissling in 1970 and 1971.
Winter will cap off his career by playing in the USILA/LaxWorld North-South Senior All-Star Game this Friday. He will play for the South Team at 5:30 p.m. at Goucher College in Towson, Md.
