LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell softball will head to Columbus, Ohio, in its first ever NCAA Regional appearance it was announced Sunday night. The Bison will face No. 11 California in the first game of the double-elimination tournament at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 21, with Ohio State and Kentucky joining them in their section of the bracket. Regional play runs May 21-23. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The tournament will be full of first time experiences for Bucknell. The Bison, who are one of nine teams to qualify for its first NCAA Regional, have never faced any of the other three schools in the Columbus region.
There will be no shortage of experience on their opponents' end, however. California (41-17) is making its 25th Regional appearance and will be looking for its 11th trip to the College World Series. Ohio State (37-12) is making its 11th NCAA Regional appearance. The Buckeyes also have one College World Series appearance, coming in 1982.
Bucknell earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Patriot League Championship last Saturday. The third-seeded Bison defeated Colgate with a pair of comeback victories to win their second league title in program history.
