WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Bucknell women's track and field improved its team standing by two spots on the final day of the William & Mary Colonial Relays at Zable Stadium on Saturday, finishing ninth. The Bison were led by day two's top finisher Casey Krause (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), who was third in the triple jump and broke onto the program's top-10 list in the event. Bucknell's distance medley relay also put up one of the best times in program history, finishing fourth in 11 minutes, 59.80 seconds.
With 42 points, Bucknell was ninth overall in a field of 30 squads, coming in just 0.50 points behind eighth-place Monmouth. Maryland took the women's title with 98 points.
Krause has carried her indoor season success with her into the spring. After being crowned the Patriot League's indoor champion in the triple jump, the junior has continued to post career-high marks. At the Colonial Relays, Krause jumped 38 feet, 10 ¼ inches which gave her third at the meet and tied her for fourth in Bucknell's record books.
Also breaking into the top 10 was the distance medley relay of Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional), Jennifer Pierce (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands), Allison Janda (Plymouth, Mich./Salem) and Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X). The time of 11:59.80 ranks sixth all-time at Bucknell.
The distance medley relay was not the only unit to claim fourth place. The shuttle hurdle relay of Taylor Funk (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant Area), Amy Mantush (Drums, Pa./Hazelton), Kristin Bretscher (Farmingville, N.Y./Centereach) and Jamie Leacock (Howell, N.J./Howell) was also fourth with a time of 1:03.10. The 4x1500 team, which included Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's), Kelly Grosskurth (Huntington Station, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills East), Caroline Tolli (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and Emily Liggett (Grosse Point, Mich./The Lawrenceville School (N.J.)), also scored with a fifth-place finish in 19:50.39.
Completing the scoring for Bucknell was Sarah Bella (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) who, with a throw of 43-8, claimed fifth in the shot put.
When Bucknell returns to the track, it will be for the Bison Outdoor Classic April 9-10 at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
