WORCESTER, Mass. - Carol Donohue registered two goals and an assist in her first start of the season, but the Bucknell women's lacrosse team fell 15-7 at Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon. Taylor Zebrowski scored five times for the Crusaders, who improved to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League.
Donohue, who is just coming back from an off-season Achilles tendon injury, moved within six points of Bucknell's all-time scoring record. It was not enough to overcome Holy Cross' hot start, however, as the Crusaders scored the game's first four goals and led 10-3 at the half.
A Michelle Milot goal pulled Bucknell within 5-2 with 14:10 left in the first half, but Holy Cross scored five straight goals over a 10-minute span to grab a commanding 10-2 lead. Julia Braun scored 12 seconds before the halftime horn to make it 10-3, but the Crusaders opened the second half on a 3-1 run and led by at least eight the rest of the way.
On the stat sheet the shots (Holy Cross 31-28), ground balls (Bucknell 13-10) and draw controls (Bucknell 12-11) were all close, but the Bison went just 1-for-7 on free-position shots and Holy Cross goalie Army Martin came up with 15 saves.
Alyssa DeLorenz had 11 saves for the Bison, who fell to 1-12 on the season, 0-4 in the Patriot League. Milot tallied a goal and an assist as well as a team-high four draw controls.
Next up for the Bison is a non-league game Wednesday at Binghamton.
