LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior swimmer Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) was named a Mid-Major All-American Honorable Mention by CollegeSwimming.com, it was announced this week. The two-time Patriot League champion earned the honor based on achieving the NCAA "B" time standard in the backstroke during the 2009-10 season.
Warren was the only Bison student-athlete named an All-American, although eight Patriot League women and nine Patriot League men were cited. A total of 208 women and men were recognized. Mid-Major institutions are designated as colleges or universities that are not affiliated with a Bowl Championship Series (BCS) conference as well as those institutions awarding less than half of the maximum-allowable scholarships.
Warren had an outstanding career at Bucknell, culminating in her second Patriot League title in the 100 back and her second consecutive ECAC title in the same event. She was the only Bison to win a Patriot League event during her four years, while she is the lone person in school history to win two career ECAC crowns.
The Bucknell record-holder in the 100 back (54.55), Warren ranks in the top 10 in program history in four different events, and was a member of 14 relay squads that posted top-10 times.
A four-time All-Patriot League selection, Warren was a First Team All-League choice for the second time in her career this year.
At this year's championship meet, Warren finished third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 free, giving her three top-five showings. Her 50 points scored ranked tied for seventh in the league, and she was part of four top-three relay squads.
A mathematics major with a minor in biology, Warren owns a 3.32 cumulative grade-point average, helping her to earn the Patriot League Women's Swimming Scholar-Athlete of the Year last month. She has spent time volunteering at LAPS animal shelter, T&D's exotic wildlife rescue organization, at a local Community Harvest Kitchen and at Riverwoods Retirement Home. The team co-captain has also competed in the Passionman Triathlon and has taught swimming lessons for two years.
Warren helped Bucknell's women's swimming and diving team finish second at this year's Patriot League Championships, its best showing since 2007.
