PRINCETON, N.J. – The Bucknell women's water polo team limited Princeton to just four goals, including only one in the second half, but the Bison netted just three goals of their own as they lost to the Tigers by a 4-3 score Sunday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Bucknell, which defeated Princeton 15-10 two weeks ago at Kinney Natatorium.
Despite the loss, the Bison are still in control of the No. 1 seed for the Southern Championships. Since they hold the goal-differential advantage over the Tigers, they only need to defeat league rival Maryland on the road in their regular-season finale next Sunday to claim the top seed at the Southern Championships. Bucknell is now 12-8 overall and 4-1 in CWPA Southern Division play.
The Bison, who equaled their season low for goals scored, found the back of the net just three times despite drawing 10 ejections. They attempted 22 total shots in the contest. Princeton (15-8, 3-1 CWPA) had eight six-on-five opportunities in the game.
Shana Palencia (Glendale, Calif./Hoover) registered two goals and Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) one to account for all of the Bucknell scoring. The Bison entered the fourth quarter trailing 4-1 and scored twice to cut the final deficit to just one goal.
Alison Carter (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) totaled seven saves in goal for the Bison, who will wrap up both the home and non-league portions of their schedule when they host Hartwick Friday, April 16, at Kinney Natatorium at 6 p.m. Bucknell's last regular-season contest will take place next Sunday at Maryland.
