Bucknell Women's Lax Hosts American Saturday on Bison Vision

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's lacrosse team will try to put an end to a six-game losing streak Saturday afternoon when it hosts American in a key Patriot League encounter at Graham Field. The noon contest will be Webcast live on Bison Vision.
Bucknell is 1-7 overall and 0-1 in the Patriot League this season. In its only league action so far, the Bison fell to Lehigh at home last Friday. In their most recent action, the Bison led Duquesne 7-5 at the half before the Dukes rallied to win 15-8 at Graham Field last Sunday.
American has also struggled recently and comes in at 2-6, 0-1. The Eagles did play defending Patriot League champion Colgate tough last weekend but fell 11-9. On Wednesday, American absorbed a 19-2 defeat at UMBC.
The contest will be the first part of a Patriot League lacrosse doubleheader on the Bucknell campus on Saturday. Following the women's game, the Bison men will host Lafayette at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m.
Bucknell-American Series Notes:
• Bucknell and American have met 15 times previously, with the Eagles winning 10. The teams first met in 1994, and Bucknell won the first three series meetings. Since then the Eagles have won 10 of 12.
• As Patriot League rivals, American has won eight of 10 games, including two in the postseason. In the 2003 Patriot League championship game, the Eagles defeated the Bison 15-6, and in the 2004 semis, American won 17-3.
• Bucknell is 2-3 against American at home.
• In last year's meeting in Washington, D.C., Carol Donohue scored three goals and the Bison defense had its best game of the season in a 6-4 victory. Bucknell fell behind 3-1 only 3:36 into the game, but then allowed only one more goal in the final 56:24. Alyssa DeLorenz made nine saves, and Julia Braun, Bonnie Buechel and Ryan Gribbon added goals for the Bison.
Bison Briefs:
• Julia Braun continues to pace the Bucknell scoring leaders with 18 goals and 20 points. Michelle Milot (10-3-13) and Becca Devine (9-4-13) have also reached double figures in points.
• Braun ranks fifth in the Patriot League in goals per game, second in draw controls per game (3.75) and third in caused turnovers per game (1.38). She ranks 17th nationally in draw controls.
• In the most recent outing against Drexel, Braun had three goals, Devine two goals and an assist, Madison Hurwitz two goals and Laura Van Schaack two assists.
• Hurwitz made her first career start in the Drexel game and scored once in each half, her first two collegiate goals.
• Braun (30) and Milot (20) have combined for 50 of Bucknell's 90 draw controls this season. The Bison rank third in the Patriot League in team draw controls at 11.25 per game.
• Goalie Alyssa DeLorenz ranks second in the nation in total saves (89) and 11th in saves per game (11.1). Her .468 save percentage ranks third in the Partiot League.
Scouting American:
• The Eagles' wins have come against Stony Brook (14-10) and Old Dominion (12-10). Four of their six losses have come by two goals or less, including an overtime loss at George Washington and an 11-10 setback at Drexel in the season opener.
• Lauren Schoenberger (11-7-18) is the team's top scorer, followed by Amanda Makoid (13-3-16), Lisa Schaaf (10-0-10), Chiara Speziale (8-1-9) and Bernadette Maher (6-3-9).
• Emily Stankiewicz leads the team in ground balls and draw controls with 18 of each.
• The Eagles have split the goaltending duties among Kaska Komosinski and Frankie Solomon. Solomon is 0-2 with a .447 save percentage, while Komoskinski is 2-4 with a .438 save percentage.
• The Eagles have been outscored 60-27 in the first half, but they have outscored foes 48-40 in the second.

The Bison make a Tuesday road trip to St. Bonaventure for a 4 p.m. game, then they return to Patriot League play nest Saturday at Lafayette at 1:30 p.m. The Lafayette game will also air on Bison Vision.
