LEWISBURG, Pa. - Coming off a weekend where she claimed her second consecutive ECAC Championships title in the 100-yard backstroke, Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen) was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The senior is the only swimmer in program history to win a pair of ECAC titles.
Already a two-time Patriot League champion in the 100 back, Warren finished first in the 100 back this past weekend by more than a second over runner-up Kellyanne Tomasula from Rider. Warren completed the distance in 55.08 seconds. That time was nearly a full second better than her prelim time of 56.02, but was more than a half-second behind her school record mark of 54.55 she achieved at last month's Patriot League Championships.
Warren, who also won the 100 back at last year's ECAC Championships, is the first Bison to win two ECAC titles. The only other Bucknell swimmers to earn ECAC titles are both in the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame. Jen Myers won the 200 back at the 1997 ECAC Championships, while Margaret Grunow claimed the 100 fly in 1993.
In addition to her success in the 100 back this past weekend, Warren finished fourth in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the prelims of the 50 free.
Last week Warren earned her fourth career All-Patriot League honor as she was a First Team All-League choice for the second time. She ranked seventh in the Patriot League with 50 points scored at the league's championship meet.
This is the second time Warren has been named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. She also earned the award last year after her ECAC Championships 100 back title.
In addition to owning the school record in the 100 back, Warren is a member of the program's top-10 lists for the 50 free, 100 free and 200 back. Additionally, she has been a member of 14 relay teams that currently rank on Bucknell's top-10 lists.
