Bucknell Men's Tennis Swept 7-0 at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Depleted by illness, Bucknell men's tennis struggled at Penn State and fell 7-0 in University Park, Pa., on Sunday. The Bison were defeated in straight sets in every match to drop their record to 1-3 this spring.
Josh Katten (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) did his best for a comeback at No. 5 singles. The Nittany Lions' C.J. Griffin handed Katten a 6-2 first-set loss and looked to be on his way to a smooth match victory after being up a break at 5-3 in the second. Katten made a last-minute push however, and eventually tied the set at five all. In the end, Griffin proved to be too much, taking the second set by a 7-5 tally.
Evan Zimmer (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) also did his best for a comeback in his No. 3 singles match against Bryan Welnetz. After losing the first set 6-1, Zimmer put up a good fight in the second but dropped the set 6-4.
Gregg Cohenca (Purchase, N.Y./Rye Country Day School) made his first career appearance at No. 1 singles. The sophomore was outmatched by Penn State's Ryan Gormley, however, taking a defeat at 6-2, 6-1.
The Nittany Lions set the tone for the day in doubles competition, sweeping the Bison.
Bucknell's next match is slated for Friday, Feb. 19. The Bison will take on Georgetown in Bethlehem, Pa.
