LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's basketball team's Philadelphia combo of junior Bryan Cohen (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Abington Friends) and freshman Cameron Ayers (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) both earned accolades on Monday after helping lead the Bison past La Salle on Friday. Cohen was named the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week, while Ayers was picked as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second time.
Cohen scored a season-high 19 points in the 89-77 victory, making seven of his last eight shots after an 0-for-3 start. He scored 13 points during Bucknell's 54-point second half, and also added three assists and a steal. All of that came in addition to his usual strong defense. For much of the night Cohen marked 15-points-per-game scorer Ruben Guillandeaux, a fifth-year senior guard, and Cohen helped hold him to four field goals, two of which came in the final minute with the game well in hand.
The reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year is averaging 7.5 points per game on the season and is ranked in the top 10 in the league in assists.
Ayers made 6 of 9 shots against La Salle, including a 3-pointer, and nine of his 13 points came in the second half. With Bucknell leading by 12 inside four minutes to play, Ayers scored on consecutive possessions to up the margin to a commanding 16 points. Ayers also had four rebounds in the win.
For the season, Ayers is playing over 24 minutes per game off the bench and is averaging 7.8 points while shooting 44 percent from the field.
Ayers has won the Patriot League Rookie of the Week Award in each of the last two weeks in which Bucknell has had games.
Bucknell has won three games in a row and is now 5-6 on the season heading into Monday night's road game at Cornell.
