LEWISBURG, Pa. – After three road meets to start the season, the Bucknell swimming and diving teams will be competing inside spacious Kinney Natatorium this Saturday. Both Bison squads will be facing Patriot League foes American, Lafayette and Navy. The quad meet will begin at noon.
Saturday's meet marks the first of seven home regular-season competitions for Bucknell. Kinney Natatorium will also serve as the host facility for the 2011 Patriot League Championships in February.
This is the fourth straight year Bucknell, American, Lafayette and Navy have convened for this November quad meet. The location rotates between Bucknell and Navy, depending on which school is hosting that year's Patriot League Championships.
Men's Notebook:
- Bucknell is 2-0 this season and is coming off back-to-back wins at George Mason (153-145) and George Washington (157-100) two weeks ago. The Bison also swam in a non-scored meet at UMBC the second Friday in October.
- Bucknell is 3-3 all-time against American, 46-4 all-time opposite Lafayette and 0-7 against Navy. The Bison have won three in a row against the Eagles and have not lost to the Leopards since the 1993-94 campaign.
- Freshman Mike Nicholson is the only Bison to break into the record books so far this year. He ranks eighth on Bucknell's top-10 list in the 400-yard individual medley with his time of 4 minutes, 5.37 seconds against UMBC.
- Bucknell enters Saturday's meet with an all-time record of 18-13 at Kinney Natatorium.
Women's Notebook:
- Like the men, the Bucknell women are 2-0 this season and are coming off back-to-back wins at George Mason (165-132) and George Washington (151.5-105.5) two weeks ago. The Bison also swam in a non-scored meet at UMBC the second Friday in October.
- Bucknell is 6-1 all-time against American, 28-2-2 opposite Lafayette and 5-8 when facing Navy. The Bison have defeated both American and Lafayette and lost to Navy each of the last three years at this quad meet. Bucknell and American first met in 1984-85, while the first meeting between the Bison and Mids was 1992-93. The Bucknell-Lafayette series commenced in 1977-78.
- Two freshmen have already broken into Bucknell's top-10 lists. In the season opener at UMBC, Kelly Pontecorvo swam the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:27.07, placing her sixth in program history. Two weeks ago against George Mason Emily Wright tied for 10th place on the 100 free list with a time of 53.10. Twenty-four hours later she shaved .18 seconds off that time at George Washington and now stands by herself in 10th place (52.92).
- The Bison have won five of their last six home meets and are 25-8-1 overall at Kinney Natatorium since it opened in 2002-03.
Both Bucknell teams will next be in action Saturday, Nov. 13, when they host Colgate. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
