PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Sophomore Kelly Purcell and freshman Jennifer Brennan both recorded program top-10 marks and Bucknell had 18 individuals advance to the finals of the five swimming events contested Saturday and the Bison women's swimming and diving team remained in second place of 15 teams following the second day of the three-day Frank Elm Rutgers Invitational.
Purcell, who was one of seven Bison to score in the 400-yard individual medley, posted a time of 4 minutes, 29.61 seconds in the event to finish fourth in the race. The time is good for seventh in Bison history, shaving .91 seconds off her previous best from last year's Patriot League Championships. Purcell also scored in the 200 freestyle, finishing 13th.
Brennan's top-10 time came in the 100 backstroke, where she swam the event in 58.58, knocking current teammate Marisa Taddeo from 10th place in program history. The time shaved 1.20 seconds off of Brennan's previous season best.
Sophomore Elizabeth Porcellio was Bucknell's top finisher in two events Saturday as she finished 12th in the 200 free and 13th in the 100 breaststroke. Molly Goebel (100 butterfly) rounded out the list of the Bison's top finishers in Saturday's five individual swimming events.
Bucknell will wrap up the three-day Rutgers Invitational on Sunday. Prelims begin at 9:30 a.m., while the finals are slated for 4:30 p.m.
