PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Freshman Mike Nicholson won his second event in as many days and Matthew Segar earned his first victory of the weekend on the second day of the three-day Frank Elm Rutgers Invitational Saturday. The Bison remained in fourth place in the eight-team field with 893 points.
Nicholson, who won the 200-yard individual medley in the fourth-fastest time in Bucknell history on Friday, added to his resume on Saturday with a victory in the 400 IM in a Frank Elm Rutgers Invitational record time of 3 minutes, 59.26 seconds. That time ranks him second in program history, behind only 2010 graduate Luke Trafton. Nicholson was the first of three Bucknell swimmers in the top three as Billy Krause took third and Jonathan Podniesinski placed fifth in the 400 IM.
Segar, who finished second in the 500 free on Friday, won the 200 free on Saturday in a season-best 1:41.37, defeating the runner-up by .64 seconds. Eric Sokolosky was not far behind in third place as five Bison advanced to the finals and finished in the top 24.
Tom Brown (6th, 100 back), Nathaniel Frye (7th, 100 breast) and Taylor Harris (9th, 100 fly) were Bucknell's top finishers in the other events contested on Saturday. Additionally, the Bison's top 200 medley relay team placed sixth, while the 800 free relay foursome finished fourth.
Bucknell will wrap up the three-day Rutgers Invitational on Sunday. Prelims begin at 9:30 a.m., while the finals are slated for 4:30 p.m.
