Starting the season as a returning sophomore was a much different experience than coming in as a new freshman. It is a lot easier to walk on deck already knowing what to expect from practice, from your coaches, and from your teammates. Instead of taking time to mentally and physically adjust to a different training style, as all freshmen have to do, we were able to fall right back into step with the way we practiced last year. The biggest transition for me was getting used to the new team dynamic that resulted from so many incoming freshmen. However, their class is extremely talented and they have made this team even more focused on the goals we have set for ourselves. I think everyone can agree that there is a noticeable difference in the overall work ethic and intensity this year.
Our two away meets in D.C. last weekend gave us the opportunity we needed to show off how hard we have been working. It was exciting not only that some great times were put up, but also that we were able to come together as a team to leave with a narrow victory against George Mason. We proved that we are a talented and cohesive team, and more importantly that we have the will to win. However, despite these initial successes, we all know that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our potential, and I personally cannot wait to see where we end up at the end of the season.
